Leaving the clinic is part of the treatment day
Same-day crossing after dental work is a logistics decision, not a badge of toughness. Ask before the chair whether going north the same evening is realistic for your procedure. Pair this page with day trip vs overnight — the written plan still wins.
Ask before you sit (not in the parking lot)
Get these answers in writing or on the plan sheet:
- Is same-day northbound crossing realistic after what we are doing today?
- Walk to the port, ride to the port, or ride all the way to a US pickup?
- Soft-food / no-straw / gauze rules for the next few hours — in plain English.
- Who do I call if bleeding or swelling worries me on the US side tonight?
- Do you want a photo check-in tomorrow, or an in-chair return?
If the answer is vague (“you’ll be fine”), ask again until it is specific. Foggy consent is not a travel plan.
Ride vs walk after treatment
Olive sits on Blvd. Agua Caliente in the Zona Río / hospital corridor — not at the turnstile. Most day-trip patients already used walk-then-ride on the way in (Uber / taxi after crossing, Zona Río day plan).
After treatment:
- Prefer a ride to the pedestrian port if you feel unsteady, swollen, or were sedated.
- Do not treat a long walk with gauze in place as a default flex.
- Confirm pickup pin while you still have clinic Wi-Fi / staff help.
- Keep Olive’s phone saved: +1 (928) 264-6204.
- If someone drives you the whole way in a car lane, that is a different document and lane story — still not an excuse to rush a peak northbound line while foggy.
Gauze, ice, meds — logistics only (no dosing)
We will not name painkiller brands or tell you how many milligrams to take. Ask Olive for their written aftercare sheet before you leave the chair.
Pack / confirm:
- Extra gauze as the clinic provides or names.
- A small ice pack plan that does not soak your bag.
- Soft foods already bought on the US side if soft-food rules start today.
- Prescriptions filled before you get stuck in a line — if the plan includes a pharmacy stop, build that time in.
- Water you can sip only if the aftercare sheet allows it.
If the sheet and the verbal instructions disagree, stop and ask which one rules.
Who drives / who walks you to the line
- If sedation or long surgery is on the plan, arrange a responsible adult for the return before you cross south.
- Do not assume you will feel like navigating a ride app alone at dusk.
- Tell that adult the clinic phone and the after-hours rule.
- If you came solo for consult-only, still leave buffer — consult days expand when imaging and paperwork stack up.
When overnight is the wiser shape
Lean overnight or a planned return when:
- The plan includes surgery + soft-food rules + “you will be tired.”
- Lab / healing requires a next-morning check the dentist wants in person.
- You would hit a known peak northbound window right after a long chair.
- You have no adult companion and sedation is involved.
- The dentist says same-day crossing is a bad idea for this procedure.
That is calendar honesty — see again day trip vs overnight. Hotel lists and affiliate spam stay off this page.
Written aftercare + emergency contact (print this)
Before you stand up from the chair, you should hold:
- Aftercare sheet (EN) with soft-food / gauze / rinse rules.
- Clinic phone + after-hours rule.
- What warrants a call tonight vs a photo tomorrow.
- Next visit date if one is already planned.
- Implant / brand / warranty pointers if hardware was placed — keep asking via questions after implants.
No sheet, no leaving. Get the paper.
Decision grid (same-day cross?)
| Signal | Lean same-day cross | Lean wait / overnight |
|---|---|---|
| Consult + imaging only, you feel clear | Usually fine with buffer | Optional |
| Short procedure, written “OK to cross today” | Possible | Still avoid peak rush if swollen |
| Sedation / long surgery / unsteady | No | Rest first |
| Dentist wants next-morning look | No | Stay or return |
| Solo + foggy + peak line | No | Companion or delay |
