How to choose a dentist in Tijuana
Different city, different crossing, different clinic density. This is a checklist — not a top-10.
Before you cross
- Know the procedure. Implants and All-on-4 are not a cleaning. You want someone who does that work every week.
- Get a written plan. Same asks: itemized total, implant or ceramic brand, what is not in the number, warranty in writing, who you call from San Diego if it fails.
- Bring X-rays if you have them.
- Do not follow a street promoter at the border.
Crossing (geo)
- Day trip from San Diego: walk San Ysidro (PedEast / PedWest) or Otay, then taxi/Uber/shuttle to Zona Río / Agua Caliente.
- Olive is in the hospital district on Agua Caliente — confirm the address on the plan.
- To re-enter the U.S. you need a WHTI document: passport or passport card. A regular driver’s license is not enough.
- FastLane / SEDETI Cruce Ágil is a vehicular municipal program (plates + name). A clinic appointment email is not that pass. Do not treat “proof of appointment” as a pedestrian Fast Pass. Ask the clinic only if a car medical lane applies — or skip the topic.
On the visit
- Cédula Profesional on the wall (Registro Nacional de Profesionistas).
- CBCT on site today? if they will place implants. Flat panoramic is not enough. No scan, no surgery day. Do not treat a scanner brand on a brochure as a guarantee.
- Named materials. “Good zirconia” is not a brand.
- Clean where you can see it. No “today only” price.
