San Ysidro or Otay — both work; the ride is the point
For Olive on Agua Caliente you still end the same way: walk a port, then taxi/Uber/shuttle to Zona Río. The choice is which pedestrian line fits your day, not which one “is safer on a blog.”
Pedestrian first (most day trips)
- San Ysidro PedEast / PedWest — common from South Bay / I-5. After you clear, ride inland to the hospital corridor.
- Otay pedestrian — useful if you already sit near Otay Mesa. Same rule after: ride to Olive, do not invent a walk-to-chair strip.
CBP pedestrian lanes are standard + ready. There is no official “medical pedestrian” category. FastLane / SEDETI Cruce Ágil is vehicular (plates + name). A clinic email is not that pass. Ask Olive only if a car medical lane applies — or skip it.
Car is optional
Driving into Mexico needs Mexican insurance and vehicle lines. Many dental day-trippers park on the US side and walk. Build buffer; weekday mornings are usually smoother than holiday peaks.
